Wellington is one of New Zealand's most charming cities, with a warm, relaxed atmosphere and a laid-back vibe. Its compact architecture and diverse mix of buildings and structures mean there's always something interesting going on; from the old city with its cobblestone streets and historic architecture to the eclectic mix of shops, cafés, and restaurants Wellington offers an exciting array of sights and experiences.

Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand, where you can find a lot of fun things to do. Here are the five things you should see when traveling to Wellington:

1. Revisit history at Te Papa Museum — Anytime you visit Wellington, New Zealand, you should make a point of visiting the Te Papa Museum, which is the country’s national museum.  Located in the center of the city, the museum houses the largest collections of New Zealand and Polynesian artifacts and ethnographic materials in the world.  Besides its extensive collection, the museum houses a large aquarium, which houses over 2000 fish and a variety of other sea life from around the world.  A lot of the museum’s displays also focus on ancient Maori culture and the history of the area, so you can take a great tour of the area’s past without having to leave the museum at all.

2. Movie lovers get ready to be amazed at WETA Cave — Weta Cave is the home of the movie special effect studio that created some of the most awe-inspiring film effects in the world, such as the finale of The Lord of the Rings trilogy or the creation of Weta Workshop's Fantasy Creatures. The museum contains all sorts of amazing props and models, including the giant robots from The Matrix and the dragon that almost killed King Kong. There's even a workshop where visitors can watch staff building props and models.

3. Witness nature at its best at ZEALANDIA Ecosanctuary — One of the things you should see when traveling to Wellington is Zealandia. It is a large area of land that is meant to be a natural area for the preservation of a large variety of plant and animal species and the restoration of natural habitats. They have many things, such as the things they do with the birds and the things they do with the sea.  This is a great place to see New Zealand's native wildlife, and since Zealandia is a sanctuary, they don't use any captive animals. Plus, there is a cool playground for the kids and some great tours. And if you are lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the elusive kiwi.  

4. Take a ride at the Wellington Cable Car — Take the Wellington Cable Car from the city to the Central Business District and enjoy the view of the city's waterfront from high above. The Cable Car is about a five-minute walk from the Viaduct Station.

5. Enjoy the view at Princess Bay — Princess Bay is a small harbor on the northern shore of Wellington Harbour, just five minutes from the city center. The bay has been known as a site of international significance since 1841 when the first European was shipwrecked here. It has since boosted tourism in the area as it has become a popular destination for divers, artists, and tourists and is home to a number of small restaurants and bars.

Wellington is New Zealand's capital, and it's a place where it's easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of the city. There are some cool places to visit and things to do, but to get the most out of your trip, you want to make sure you pack a camera and grab a guidebook as soon as you arrive.
