The Starship Troopers universe, created by Robert Heinlein and brought to life in 1997's Starship Troopers: A Space Trooper Movie, has been reimagined for modern audiences. Ready your unit, the Mobile Infantry, for the alien threat. The Starship Troopers: Terran Command is aN electrifying strategy game that are set in the Starship Troopers universe.
The game takes place in the planet of Klendathu. War continues between the United Citizen Federation and the Arachnids. The Bug homeworld is a beautiful sight, as depicted in the film. However, it is only the beginning of what is an otherwise long and tedious campaign.
You will be in charge of the soldiers at the mining colony of Kwalasha after a failed retreat. Kwalasha plays an important role in preparing the Earth for a new offensive against the Arachnids. Despite being overrun by the Arachnids, Kwalasha provides a valuable boost to the war machine. From there, you'll explore remote and inhospitable regions that appear no different from previous locations.
In the Mobile Infantry
You will take control of various units to combat the Arachnid threat in Starship Troopers: Terran Command, ranging from reliable Marines and stealthy Snipers to the destructive Marauders and Rocket Troopers. Units in this game have a variety of skills and abilities that can be used in battle. As units level up, they may unlock new abilities that can be used to further strategic advantage.
Like for an instance, the Fleet Liaisons can drop in airstrikes and the MK. II Troopers can throw grenades in the small areas. Also, you are up against some of the most dangerous eight-legged creatures in the galaxy, such as the vicious deadly Plasma Grenadiers, Tigers, beam-blasting Scorpions, and heavily-armored Tankers. Most missions also have nests and hives which must be destroyed in order to progress. These usually contain reinforcements that will keep spawning until the nest or hive is eliminated.
The game offers a variety of enemies, but many of them lack the engagement or uniqueness that would make the game more enjoyable. Although the later missions in the campaign may present more interesting challenges, the first few missions will largely require you to use the same strategies and techniques, which may be further hindered by the game's core mechanics.
Starship Troopers: Terran Command is a game that departs from the traditional real-time strategy mold, instead focusing on base-building and actions-per-minute. The best choice for upgrading your outpost is to choose a unit that best suits your needs. As you progress through the levels, you will need to use your squads more tactically in order to reach your objectives and defeat the enemy. This will involve moving from cover to cover, using cover to your advantage, and taking out hostile targets efficiently. If you can do this, you will reach the end of the level and complete your mission.
What’s great about the game?
The professionally-produced cinematics in this game do an excellent job of conveying the campy feel of the original movie. The gameplay provides an adrenaline rush with its fast-paced and action-packed moments, especially when players need to find a safe place to eliminate hordes of aliens. Some of the unit abilities are quite impressive.
What’s not good about the game?
The campaign was repetitive and tiresome. Relying too much on line of sight and line of fire can lead to a stop-and-go approach. There are some pathfinding issues that can cause units to get stuck. This game lacks a multiplayer component.
Overall, Starship Troopers: Terran Command is very unpolished. Its core mechanics and level design are poorly conceived and make the game quite frustrating to play. Do keep in mind that this is mostly a single-player experience with no multiplayer component whatsoever, be it co-op or competitive. You'll find yourself using the same tactics, hearing the same voice lines, and exploring environments that look very similar to one another repeatedly.
Although there may be some moments of excitement, such as defending a base from a large group or escaping from a pack of mobs, most of the game will be less interesting than the sequels to the movie Starship Troopers.
