What is Coromon 

Coromon is a popular monster-taming RPG similar to the iconic Pokemon series. However, this one comes with a few twists that set it apart from Pokemon. This video game combines sprite-based visuals with unique puzzle-solving tools, excellent character automization, and a solid dungeon system.

This monster-taming RPG is carefully designed to offer a fresh yet nostalgic “cath-em-all” gaming experience. Each region comes with different monsters, sights, and climatic conditions.

Coromon’s World 

The world of Coromon takes place in a high-tech world called Velua, where magical creatures and mankind coexist. Players will play as a young and new hire at a tech company and research a mysterious energy source called Titan Essence produced by Titans.

However, a shady organization also aims to get and abuse that power. With the help of more than 100 types of Coromons, players will develop and train a team to fight the Titans and collect the essences before the other side does. 

The game enables players to customize their avatars using different outfits, hair types, and skin colors before heading out to the lab. We noticed that it uses vibrant colors, strong outlines, and extensive sprites. In return, the game world delivers a retro look with rich details.

The Combat 

Coromon’s combat occurs in themes battled screens, including volcanic caverns, marshy coastlines, frosty tundras, and pyramid-laden deserts. We appreciate that the screens are rich in more details compared to the game’s overworld. We also see a cartoonish style, which is useful in depicting the zone.

Coromon also pits the monsters against the wild ones like in the Pokemon games. Aside from the naming nominations and elemental alignments, the battle feels the same as the classic Pokemon battles. Meanwhile, we see some improvements in Coromon as it allows customizing a team, leveling, and fighting.

This monster-taming RPG also features rare creature systems and unique stat allocation, rewarding the players with plenty of hours to hunt monsters and build a team. At every level, players can increase Health, Speed, Defense, Special Defense, Attack, and Special Attack by a specific number of points. 

The Retro Charm 

With a perfect mix of classic Nintendo and revered Pokemon, Coromon undeniably delivers a retro charm. The puzzles and map designs are impressive, while the collecting aspects and combat system are satisfying. This game does not radically reinvent Pokemon elements, instead offers better options. 

PC Gaming 

One of the things we like about Coromon is that it is not a demanding game. A PC must have at least Windows 7 OS, Open GL 2.1 or higher, and a 1GHz CPU to play the game. Coromon features full controller support alongside an option to use a mouse and keyboard. Beware that it has no multiplayer functionality because it is designed to be a single-player game.
