Today, we are going to do a review at a new game that is coming out that we have all been waiting on for a while, Humankind from Amplitude Studios.

What’s in the video game Humankind?

Humankind is a 4X video game blending a Civilization/Civ style of gameplay with a new twist, where you can pick a civilization and play as them on a virtual planet, the computer procedurally generates the planet, and you will have to interact through diplomacy, combat, and war to survive on this planet.

There are a lot of games that have been inspired by other games. In the context of video games, the Civilization series is a pretty big deal. It’s a series of turn-based strategy games that have been around for a long time. Well, we couldn’t call out others for saying that Humankind is somewhat similar or is influenced by the series. Because hey, being a great game like civilization, well, it’s hard to forget its greatness as well as to compete with its popularity. But well, let’s give Humankind the fair share of popularity. After all, the Amplitude Studios are the ones behind the amazing Endless Legend and Endless Space.

With this new game, we can tell that they have put a lot of work into it, and it would be better if it could be put into the console or like on the Nintendo platform. Why, you may ask? Well, it is a great game, and a lot of people would be able to play it. Well, they may have heard us that they have actually released Humankind for the platform Microsoft Windows macOS Stadia this August 2021. Also, it is now in the early access stage on Steam.

What’s Unique with Humankind?

Humankind is an excellent example of the classic true-life story formula. However, it’s more than that. The unique features of Humankind that distinguish it from other 4X games are the selection of 10 different civilization types (representing ten different historical societies). Each of these allows the player to build out the game in different ways, with different bonuses and penalties to their civilization. For instance, a player can choose either a militaristic society, a balanced society, a merchant society, a resource-based society, a religious society, or a scientific society to start with.

In addition, each of the different empires within the Humankind universe will have a different government structure, from a monarchy to a democracy to a republic. This choice will have a major impact on the player’s ability to trade with other civilizations and the military tactics they can employ.

As your empire grows, you’ll expand into foreign lands, conquer new cities, and train soldiers to defend your borders. If you’re patient, you’ll even research new technologies like farming, writing, and metallurgy and unlock new game modes like the Neolithic Era.

On the Flipside of Humankind…

If you’re an avid video game player, then you will be familiar with the frustration of having to restart your gaming experience from the beginning because of a crash or a server error. Well, e don’t know about you, but Humankind have some drawbacks. To start with, bugs and performance issues are ones that are frustrating. You will notice it with the flickering of semi-trucks or wagons travelling on your paved road. A quick restart might help, but sometimes it may cause a bit of wait time; it is as if it wouldn’t allow you to continue the game.

Conclusion

Humankind is an unusual game, rather than a traditional 4X game, which combines the familiar elements of what makes a civilization tick with the idea that every last individual of that society is just as important as the sum of the parts that make it up. You don’t just build up armies and cities. You build up the people who live in them.
