Before I proceed to the benefits and drawbacks of rooted and jailbroken phones, let me first take a look at the things that involve rooting. In the easiest terms, the rooting means I will get administrative privileges or root access on my phone. Although my phone is fully paid, this does not guarantee that internals will not be locked away.
Just like how I use a desktop computer with my user account, I can use many different features on my phone yet. However, I cannot do it without any administrative rights. When I do root my phone, it makes me a user at the same time an administrator.
Above all, having great power, it means it also needs great responsibility. I have so many things that I can do with my phone, especially in terms of the protection and security that sometimes I disregard the idea to root my phone. Yet, still, I get to control my device well. Then I get to root my phone and here is the tea!
Advantages of Rooted and Jailbroken Phones
- Opportunity to Install Custom ROMs
After I rooted my device, I can now install a custom Kernel or ROM that is important as I became wise in choosing my software. This is the biggest reason why I finally choose to root my device. The good thing about the custom ROMs is that it gives multiple performance tweaks and fixes my phone’s system. I prefer this because it is user-friendly to stock ones. It does optimize the performance and battery, and frequently updates than with the ROMs’ stock do.
Kernel – is an Android part of the operating system, and it helps apps in controlling the phone’s hardware device.
- Helps to remove the Pre-installed OEM apps
When I have purchased my phone, it already has different installed apps from its manufacturer. Some of it is pretty fine yet, there are still plain useless, and most of the time, you cannot remove them. But when I have rooted my device, now I can easily remove those useless apps, and I can control my phone more.
- Chance to block the ads in all apps
It is just simple to block the ads using the web browser yet. It becomes complicated to phones and other devices. When I’m on the game, many pop-ups became one of my regular problems, but when I root my phone, it already has gone away. And now, I am completely enjoying my gaming experiencing without any hustle.
Drawbacks of Rooted and Jailbroken Phones
- Bricking of the Phone
A common threat usually on phones and other devices when rooting is misoperation that can make the phone into a more unusable, expensive brick. I avoid this by getting apps on reliable sources such as Google Play. Also, I learn not to delete files suggested after rooting. There was so much risk when I was new in rooting, and fortunately, I did not end up bricking my phone. There are available detailed tutorials that I have watched via the internet; however, it is a daunting task for me.
- No More Warranty
This is a big disadvantage that I am truly afraid of. When I root my phone, I have already lost the warranty on my phone. Most of the time, manufacturers will not cover the damages that are caused by rooting.
Nevertheless, the rooting of the phone is essential for some reasons. You must try it, too. But first, try to explore and find more tutorials about rooting. My phone is now working well, and I am truly satisfied with the performance of its system.
