Graffiti is now honestly a big part of our lives, especially since it is almost everywhere. No matter where you are, you’ll most probably find graffiti somewhere. Graffiti is art, to be more specific, street art, and when exactly is graffiti just vandalism? I know that we can all agree that we’ve seen vandalism in at least one point in our lives, and you may be wondering what exactly is the difference between art that you see on the street or just vandalism? Is graffiti even actually considered to be vandalism?

As we all know, vandalism is pretty much illegal in America, and most of the countries out there since it is just writing something on someone else’s property without their consent. And graffiti can be considered vandalism unless you do ask for permission. So, graffiti is pretty much just considered to be vandalism whenever it is done without permission. Remember that vandalism is illegal, and it probably will lead you landing in jail, so don’t do it. Remember to always ask for permission.

Even though there are some similarities between graffiti and vandalism, there are actually some differences between the two of them, so what exactly are the differences of those two? Well, the main difference is that vandalism is an intentional damage caused to someone else’s property. Meanwhile, graffiti is a writing or a drawing made in public areas. So, they are kind of the same, but not really, if that even actually makes sense. I do hope that my explanation so far of this does hopefully make sense and can be understood.

Graffiti is a pretty interesting subject, especially when you compare it to something such as vandalism. Right now, though, let’s focus on what graffiti is since we definitely do encourage you in forming your own opinion about this subject. Just like mentioned earlier, graffiti is just a bunch of writings or drawings made in public areas. Those drawings are also usually a form of an artistic expression. You could also be wondering what artistic expression is, artistic expression is just a psychological state of mind that is expressed by works of art. Basically, Graffiti is usually used to express the artist’s emotions or their state of mind. There are also a lot of pretty famous graffiti artists out there that are just amazing at graffiti or in art in general, such as Keith Haring and Banksy.

Now, let’s focus on vandalism and what it is exactly. In general, vandalism is damaging or drawing something in someone else’s property without their consent, just as mentioned earlier. If you want further explanation and more examples of what vandalism is, then you’ve definitely come to the right place. Examples of vandalism may include breaking or smashing someone else’s window, spray painting, or painting somewhere which belongs to someone else and is done without their consent, throwing eggs at another person’s property, salting lawns, cutting trees without permission, and a whole lot more.  Another question that probably comes to your head whenever you think of vandalism is, what do the police actually do when you report a vandalism? Vandalism can be a minor or major offense depending on how much damage that person has made to someone else’s property. Reporting or filing a case about vandalism can also help policemen in your city monitor vandalism.

Let’s be honest, we all know that we all have different opinions on this matter. Would it be okay just as long as permission was made? Or do you think that there shouldn’t be graffiti at all? Or do you also think that it’s perfectly fine with graffiti even if you don’t ask for permission? Do you think people who vandalize deserve being fined or going to jail? We definitely do recommend you commenting where you stand in the comment section down below.
