Computing machines, or commonly computers, are a big part of our lives today. These are important for our everyday work, school activities, and other tasks that we need to accomplish each day. Generally, computers have made our lives easier, allowing us to reach and communicate, compute, and do projects in just a few simple clicks.

Who invented the first Computer?

It was a famed mathematician named Charles Babbage, who invented the first computer, and it was called the Analytical Engine during the 1800s. The computer wasn’t originally made for emails or entertainment purposes but solely for solving a serious number-crunching crisis.

Early beginning of Computing Machines

The computers came a long way from its humble beginnings. It all started with an abacus, which was manually moved in order to be used. Then came Antikythera mechanisms that were designed to calculate the astronomical positions. Next came a much modern one called the Pascaline (Pascal’s Calculator), then the Stepped Reckoner that was completed in 1694. Finally, the Arithmometre was the first mechanical calculator to be mass-produced.

Going to a much later time, during the 1880s, the US population grew so big that it has taken more than 7 years to cover the total of the census. As the government of the US sought easier ways to get the job done, so came punch card based computers that answered their problems when it came to the computations.

The development of modern-day Computing Machines

The development of computers is truly fascinating. How it works today is much more flexible and functional that it was first designed for. Computers are also referred to as computing machines because the original function is computing; no other action can be done on it as it was solely used for mathematical equations and computations.

Fast forward to the modern-day computers. The innovation is far beyond what it was expected to do. There are hundreds of uses and things that we can do on computers. Yes, we can still compute, but it has far more bigger features than can be expected. Today there are even computers specifically designed for certain tasks such as for drawing, designing, layouts, for businesses, and so much more.

Importance of Computing Machines

Computing machines, or simply, computers serve a lot of functions and importance to date. Here are some areas where computers are essential.

Computers for Services

The increase in demand in computer technology for services makes it essential in this area. Computers can perform calculations and, at the same time, receive commands. It is also essential for many operations like transactions, billing, record keeping, and even task planning.

Computers in the area of Education

Computer technology can be a powerful tool that can help in advancing education both in non-traditional and traditional ways. As we all know, there are a lot of online courses that are offered and don’t demand any means of quitting jobs. Young students use the power of computers for mathematical computations, analysis, access, and research for needed information.

Computer Technology used in Communication

I know we are talking about computers as computing machines but let me tell you how computers are also essential in communication. The importance of computers for the field of communication is continuously increasing today in the 21st Century. We can keep in touch while at home, at travels, at work, anytime and anywhere thanks to this device. Computer technology can be used to access currencies, stock prices, even weather forecasts, and so much more.
