In this country, it is normal to eat 12 pieces of grapes – one per stroke of the clock until midnight on New Year’s Eve. They believe that each grape epitomizes good luck for every month of the year. In some big cities like Barcelona and Madrid, people go together in main squares to the 12 pieces of grapes and take some cava bottles.

Denmark 

Danish greet the upcoming year by tossing old plates and glasses against their friends’ and family’s doors. According to them, this is to banish bad spirits to their places. They stand on chairs and simultaneously jump at midnight, believing about “luck.”

Philippines

Filipinos believe in many traditions for New Year’s Eve. They gather round shapes as representatives of money coins. This symbolizes good luck and prosperity for the coming year. The majority of the families display different types of rounded fruits on their tables. Some of them eat the 12 pieces of round fruits at midnight. They also believe that wearing polka dots on New Year’s Eve brings luck for the new year coming.

Brazil 

Same with the countries in South and Central America like Bolivia, Venezuela, and Ecuador, they believe that wearing special underwear on New Year’s Eve would bring luck to them. The most common colors that they wear are red and yellow. They believe that a red-type underwear would bring love in the upcoming year, and the yellow-type underwear brings money to them.

Greece 

Hanging onion on their houses’ front doors is a traditional way of celebrating their New Year’s Eve. This symbolizes rebirth in the New Year. And during this day, parents wake their kids by means of tapping them on their head with an onion.

Finland

People in this country predict the upcoming year through casting molten tin to the water’s containers. After it hardens, they interpret the produced shape. A ring or heart signifies a wedding; a pig connotes abundance of food, and a ship symbolizes travel.

Panama 

It is the resident’s culture to burn effigies of known people like political figures in their country and television characters. This is their way to drive away from the evil spirits towards a new and fresh start of the upcoming year.

Scotland 

On the New Year’s Eve occasion of Hogmanay, they practiced “first-footing” in any part of the country. It is their belief that the first one who crosses a verge of home in New year must bring a gift that represents a bit of luck. People in this country also conduct bonfire ceremonies. During the ceremony, people parade while they swing big fireballs on poles. These symbolize the sun, which purifies the upcoming year.

Most of them believe in luck, prosperity, money, love, an abundance of food, and any other type of blessings from above.
