But in recent years, the quality of the pictures produced by these instant cameras have really been taken to another level. The same is true with the Fujifilm Instax SQ1.

This square polaroid camera comes with a 65.75 mm retractable lens that can capture vibrant pictures with features that are more defined as opposed to the grainy ones from older versions. This produces 62mm x 62mm square pictures that is more appealing because it affords more area to be captured. The bigger canvas gives the photographer more area to play around with and be more artistic. Many would prefer it as against the small rectangular print out produced by the Instax Mini.

This is also more appealing to those who favor taking selfies since it features a clear mirror near the lens, which allows for preparation for the subject, and the shutter button is placed at an ideal spot that it can easily be triggered when the camera is being held at arm’s length. A great new feature for this instant camera is that the square format films can come in rainbow or monochrome, which are great ways to express yourself and showcase your artistic side.

This camera is also equipped with a frame counter so that you can easily know how many shots you have left. You simply turn the lens in order to turn on the unit, another turn on the lens will allow you to take selfies or close up mode.

It will feel a bit awkward and bulkier, especially if you are used to the niftier Instax Mini, but it definitely is more portable than the SQ6, which was released in 2018. It features a ridged grip for more stability and mobility when using the SQ1.

Because the shutter speed is from 1.6 to 1/400 sec, it is not advisable to use this in low light settings. Despite there being fully automatic exposure that is available as a light source, the difference between the quality of an outdoor shoot from an indoor, low light shoot is very apparent. The image is still vibrant, but the crisp outlines of the objects can be achieved if the surroundings have more lighting.

This camera comes in 3 trendy colors – terracotta orange, glacier blue, and chalk white. Additional accessories are available such as a slinged-camera case for stylish and easy portability, a tote bag, a photo album, and even a photo frame that fits the dimensions of the picture.

If I had to pit it against another instant camera, the biggest competitor would have to be the SQ6. They are in the same line as Fujifilm, and both produce square photos with popping quality. SQ1 fares better than the SQ6 in terms of portability, ease of use, and more trendy design. The SQ6, on the other hand, is better when it comes to the availability of options that you can fiddle and work with to add flare to your photos. It is also a bit sleeker in appearance and is quite lighter, although unnoticeable.

One issue I had with using instant cameras is that their batteries are usually not easily available. The same is true with the SQ1, which requires 2 CR2lithium batteries in order for it to operate.

But then again, might it just be me? What about your comments down below and let me know what you think about the Fujifilm Instax SQ1.
